This post has been months in the making, mostly because of regular life stuff getting in the way, but without further a due I would love to introduce you to the location of my music video for “On This Silent Night”. It’s a place that will be special to our family forever! This past summer (after a very long winter of hospitals, recovery, and doing our best to pick up the pieces of our family that had been strewn all over God’s creation for a period of time) we ventured over to White Sulpher Springs for a family camp. I had no idea that these things even existed! What a blessing!
When I was a teen I remember going to summer camp with my youth group from church. It was always a blast, very structured, and we’d get a spiritual reality check before heading back to school that year. I was under the impression that after you began adult life, things such as camp would become a mere memory. But this place had everything an ADULT would want in a camp: a beautiful setting away from all the “to do’s” of life, spacious, comfortable rooms, classes for the kids and CHILDCARE!!!!. Can I get an AMEN in the house?!?!
The schedule kept everyone in mind, and nothing was required of us. If we couldn’t make it to a class, that was ok. If we wanted to go into town for the day, that was ok. We had personal devotional time, class time (everyone one in the family had their own age group to go to), a ladies group and a mens group for prayer time, free time, and MEAL TIME! Meals were prepared and served family style so you could enjoy a delicious meal and get to know the other campers, staff, and volunteers. After a few days the kids were asking to sit with friends, the teenagers were fighting over who got to hold our baby, and we were making new friends too! It felt like home!
There was a bunk bed in our room for the kids!
Gotta get the camp bet time shot!
Made new friends.
Did some gardening. Yes that’s some kind of crazy squash thing.
There is also a free day scheduled in, SO we went to a nearby cavern and let the kids pan for treasures!
Outside fun galore. Playgrounds, a pond to do some canoeing and kayaking, a rock wall built into the barn, horseback riding, hiking, rocking on the porch, a campfire marshmallow roasting time…all the things you could possibly want to enjoy at a camp.
And who can resist a hayride!!! (Other than those allergic to it…)
As as site for our filming, it was just as great! I know you’ve seen the smaller fireplace shots in my blog as well as in the video. We tried to show a little bit of the property in the blogs too. So if you haven’t gotten to see those, here’s the link:
The staff was great to work it, and I know they were praying for the project as we were working. It was amazing how everything was starting to fall through, and then with the Lord’s prompting, a phone call with a simple question turned it all around. It was a great first project! And who knows, maybe we’ll be putting WSS on the screen again in the future…
What are YOU’RE plans this summer?!? FAMILY CAMP!!
